The SSR Upgrade capability allows Buyers to query and purchase upgrade options for ancillary services (such as baggage allowance or sports equipment) that have already been confirmed on an existing booking.

Instead of purchasing a completely new standalone ancillary or canceling the original item, Buyers can seamlessly trade in an existing lower-tier service (e.g., 20kg Checked Baggage) for a higher-tier service (e.g., 30kg Checked Baggage) by paying only the differential balance due.

Step 1: Retrieve Order Details (orderRetrieve)

  • Obtain the unique booking identifier (targetSupplierBookingId / targetGdnBookingId) for the active ancillary item that the passenger wishes to upgrade.

Step 2: Search Upgrade Options (ServiceList)

  • Call ServiceList by passing the target ancillary ID in the request's upgradeSSR context. GDN extracts the original booking state and returns higher-tier upgrade offers tailored to that passenger and segment.

Step 3: Execute Order Change (orderChange)

  • Submit the selected upgrade offer ID (serviceOfferId) via changeOrderChoice.ssrUpgrade to finalize the modification and settle the differential amount.

Step 4: Verify Order Details (OrderRetrieve)

  • Retrieve the updated order to confirm the upgraded service status and review the modification history record (SSR_UPGRADE).

Supplier-Specific Business Rules & Constraints

While the GDN schema provides a unified API interface across all connected partners, available service categories, upgrade permissions, and quantity limits are strictly enforced according to the specific business rules of each supplier/carrier connection.

Buyers should take note of the following supplier-specific rules when initiating SSR Upgrade queries:

When processing upgrades under AirAsia (WANO connection) rules:

  • Supported Service Categories: Upgrades are strictly limited to Baggage and Sports Equipment. Upgrade queries for other ancillary types (e.g., Seats, Meals) will yield no available offers.
  • Standalone Ancillaries Only (Bundle Exclusion): SSR upgrades apply ONLY to standalone, individually purchased baggage and sports equipment. Upgrades for baggage included within a fare bundle (e.g., Value, Flex, or Deluxe bundles) are NOT supported for now.
  • Maximum Passenger Allowance Caps: Cumulative ancillary weight limits per passenger cannot exceed:
    • Checked Baggage: Maximum 60 kg per passenger.
    • Sports Equipment: Maximum 40 kg per passenger.
  • Exceeding Limits: If an upgrade request causes a passenger's total baggage or sports equipment allowance to exceed these caps, ServiceList will gracefully return an empty offer array (serviceOffers: []).
